THE SMART MONEY WOMAN: A GUIDE TO FINANCIAL FREEDOM

Basic RGB

I must admit that despite the attractive book cover, I was not sure what to expect from The Smart Money Women. My reasons where simple. First, I had never heard of the author and second, I am usually sceptical about books that claim to teach you how to put your money to good use. I usually find such books boring and to me they seldom offer practical advice. Arese Ugwu’s book turned out to be different!

I must confess I skipped over the financial advice bits and read the actual story of Zuri and her friends. It was nice to read about the hot spots in Lagos – this brought the characters close to home and made them relevant to today’s Nigerian woman. When I had finished the novel I went back to read through the financial lessons in each chapter. I found them pretty easy to follow.

This 210-page book is divided into 12 chapters. At the end of each chapter, Arese defines certain terminologies used in a section called “Smart Money Lesson”. Afterwards, she gives her readers a number of simple (but powerful) exercises to enable them realise where they are at in terms of financial health, create a road map and action plans to get them to their desired financial goal.

This book tackles debt, spending, the entrepreneurial culture of the African middle class, the fear and misconceptions surrounding money and the lack of it, love, friendships, cultural and societal pressures and the roles they play in success.

The Smart Money Woman is a pretty good and easy read especially for those looking to turn their financial situations around.

AGU’S PRACTICAL GUIDE TO REGAINING AND PROTECTING YOUR FREEDOM

book-cover-for-sex-lies-and-your-soul

Since the sexual union of marriage ties two souls as one, what do you think happens if a person commits fornication or adultery with another person outside marriage? Actually, your soul becomes mysteriously knit and tied to the other person also. They cleaved together just as in marriage. The soul ties formed through illicit sexual involvement can be as strong and binding as those formed through the marriage covenant.

It is ironic that despite the influx of information about sex in our society today, some pre-marital counselling classes make scant mention of sex, our present day beliefs does not encourage discussions on sex, even the church created by God to introduce light into darkness, knowledge where there is ignorance and make palatable what could otherwise be distasteful, has failed in this regard; they have as well adopted same mindset.

Sex, Lies and your Soul by Agu Irukwu was written purposefully to provide some much needed insight on the subject ‘sex’. It offers in four parts and 83 pages, encouragement to those whose mistakes have trapped them in bondage to sexual addiction.

The first part of the book ‘The Web’, open our eyes to the state of things today; how we are being bombarded with a daily intake of sex through billboards, television, books, magazines, and all what not, the advertising industry uses sex to sell almost everything, role models for some youth are usually people who subscribe to a lifestyle of sexual promiscuity. It takes us on a voyage into his life as regards his battle with sexual immorality, prior to becoming a pastor and provides us with some teachings on the battle of your soul.

The part two ‘What they didn’t teach me about sex’ reveals to us God’s design about sex, His perception towards sexual immorality, how sex within the confines of marriage is seen as an act of worship to God, sex and soul ties, sex in relation to the spirit realm, the result of sex especially outside marriage, the marriage covenant and the physical consequences of sexual immorality.

Part three provides us with answers to life-long questions like; is masturbation sexually moral? Is pornography harmless? How far is too far? Can a Christian struggle with sexual immorality? Is sexual immorality generational? I was sexually abused, what do I do? What can I do to get rid of sexually immoral thoughts and images that plague me?

Part four gives us insight as to what sexual addiction is and how to regain and protect your freedom.

Main characters:

  1. Mr God
  2. UN
  3. Prof Ekpo
  4. Habiba
  5. Secretary General of the United Nations
  6. Security council

The novel When God Came by Elechi Amadi comprises of two stories- Song of the Vanquished and When God came.

It is easy to discern from the narrative of this multifaceted yet easy to read book, the growing concern of the author for man, its future and environment. The notion he has formulated while being revelatory about the subject is centred around Nigeria and findings of scientist especially astronomers. His perspective has its root in the ancient times when nuclear fusion was perfected – this made people believe that the golden age of man had arrived and the problem of dumping vast quantities of radioactive ash from crude nuclear power houses was no more, decadence of the species and man’s expedition especially astronomers to the first encounter with extra-terrestrial being.

The first story in the novel started with the arrival of an extra-terrestrial creature with an unusual appearance- Mr God to the house of the Secretary General of the United Nations uninvited. He disrupts his almost unconscious mind (sleep) with a buzz from his intercom by his Head of Security-Mr Chris talking about a man insisting on seeing him for a brief talk about human beings on this planet and introduced himself s their creator.

All attempts to stop Mr God from seeing the S.G by security personnel’s failed as doors opened automatically for him, no one could touch him nor come so close to him because of an invisible wall as described by the character Mr Chris. When he finally gained entrance into the house of the S.G as well as his attention, he requested that the Security Council be summoned so that he could speak with them and thereafter, to the world. All efforts to stop the convening of members of the Security Council for this discussion with Mr God and thereafter with the world based on the grounds of insanity from by the S.G proved abortive. After some thought on the creature, its powers, the Security Council and the world of science, S.G agreed on convening the council in a week time.

The council in disbelief of Mr God’s person and powers during the meeting decided to put him through a test-bringing in some terminally ill patients to him for healing. He requested he take them with him and bring them back the following day but no one will go with him except the sick, bringing to their knowledge what they-members of the security council were thinking- testing Mr God’s medical expertise and picking up some medical knowledge from him. The following day when Mr God brought back the men, they were not only well and buoyant but looked radiant and rather younger.

The U.N had convened a special session of the world’s scientists, philosophers and theologians for a three-day dialogue with Mr God where all their questions about his personality and creation was answered.

Published copies of the highlight of the ‘Dialogue with God’ which earths wise men could recall from memory-as cameras couldn’t capture his image nor record what he said and on which there was overwhelming corroboration, sold millions of copies within a few weeks.

The second story ‘Song of the Vanquished’ according to the writer was told by Pro Kwaki-a life-long assistant to Professor Ekpo, one of the major characters in the novel. It was recovered high up on the Kilimanjaro peak in 9010 by a team of Nigerian and Kenyan archaeologists.

It provides a detailed report on the dissolution of the species-man caused by nuclear holocaust, another dominant animal, environmental change, biological deterioration and others through Professor Ekpo’s theory ‘Decadence of the Species’- a product of many brilliant scientists from many disciplines and discoveries gotten after several researches done by the U.N.

In the midst of these discoveries, man’s true nature was revealed- the ability to amidst fear of the unknown come up with ways of staying younger, cravings to be loved and the desire to make use of the available time left to her benefit.

The most fascinating element of Trump 101-The Way to Success are the direness of his stories. This is not a guy who talks about small things; he dashes off statements like
“For seven years, New York City had been trying to rebuild and restore this beautiful skating rink but it never seemed to work. I stepped in and finished it in three months and for less than ten percent of the city’s twenty one dollar million cost, everyone benefitted”.
“Thinking small when you could think big limits you in all aspects of your life”
“Remember the saying, ‘it’s lonely at the top’ I don’t agree with it. Someone who didn’t want any competition probably coined it. I’m secure enough in my success to welcome competition and being at the top is a great feeling”.
“Few things are as exciting and schedule blowing as a new baby- just ask any father and he will agree…”
‘’ Despite what people think, I wasn’t born with the Midias touch. I’ve been very lucky- I’m the first to admit it…’’

Trump 101 captures Trump’s management skills, career and financial advice as well as lessons on the most important qualities and skills every business person needs- passion. Other lessons include:
Finding the work you love and doing it

Being tough, not nasty
